The other high school girls competed in the JV division and finished 3rd overall out of 7 teams. Brooklynn Jackson finished in 4th, Helen Peters finished in 5th, and McKenna Mull finished in 11th. Also scoring for the Phoenix in this race were Ava Bourne and Lainey Jackson. All runners earned season PRs.
Our high school boys also competed as a team in the JV division and finished in 6th place overall. Senior Evan Hoffer ran a PR time of 19:17 and finished in 9th place. Also scoring for the Phoenix were Ian Beck (26th, PR time 21:22), Elijah Clayton (30th, PR time 21:31), Uriah Neal (56th), and Eric Peregoy (61st, PR time 24:25).
It was a great day with cool overcast skies, perfect for racing! Our team continues to train hard and put themselves in fantastic condition for finishing out our cross country season!
Thank you for all of your support for these athletes! Piedmont District Championships will be held next Thursday, October 22! Go Phoenix! We are not finished yet!

On Wednesday, September 30, both middle and high school Phoenix cross country teams hosted their 2026 home meet! The middle schoolers competed in a 3K (1.86 miles) and the high schoolers competed in a 5K (3.1 miles.) Both races begin and end in the Phoenix stadium, while the middle part of the race takes runners on the trail throughout our campus.
Our high school girls swept the meet with a perfect cross country score of only 15 points with all five top scorers being seniors on the MCHS team! Natalie Adams finished first, setting a new 5K course record, with a personal record time of 19:54. Lillian Beatty followed in 2nd, Brooklynn Jackson in 3rd, Helen Peters in 4th, and McKenna Mull in 5th.
Our high school boys had a great showing finishing a close third behind Tunstall. Senior Evan Hoffer executed a well thought out plan to finish first with an PR time of 19:33. Eli Clayton (10th), Ian Beck (12th), Warren York (13th), and Eric Peregoy (25th) were the other runners scoring for the Phoenix.
Our middle school girls also finished in first place with a total of only 19 points. Eighth grader Ava Dalton, finished first, setting a new 3K course record, with a time of 13:04. Also scoring for the Phoenix were Lena Manning (3rd), Cami Patton (4th), Tatum Callahan (5th), and Lillian Peregoy (6th).
Our middle school boys worked hard to earn a second place finish. Eighth grader Clinton Adams was the top Phoenix runner finishing in 2nd place. Also, scoring for the middle school boys were Scott Lewis (5th), Benjamin Moss (7th), Harper Dugger (14th), and Aiden Lindsey (15th).
While the races were exciting as the runners gave their all on a tough course, one of the best parts of the night was honoring our seniors. Each year, our seniors earn their MCHS Phoenix cape! This tradition was started in 2023 at our first ever home meet. We were also able to honor Christian Lecher and Natalie Adams. Christian Lecher, 2026 graduate, was honored for earning the 2025 Piedmont District Runner of the Year. Christian is currently running at Roanoke College, and his award was accepted by his parents, Scott and Cindy Lecher. Natalie Adams was awarded 2024 and 2025 Piedmont District Runner of the Year!
The team and coaches would like to thank everyone who came out to fill the stands and line the course to cheer them on during the race. To all of the parents, BETA club members, MCHS staff and administration, THANK YOU for volunteering and for your continued support! We still have five meets left in our season, and as coaches we feel we are in a great spot with lots of PRs and successes to come! We are praying for continued health and energy for our team as the temperatures drop and their feet get faster!

A Message of Appreciation for Mr. Singleton and Mr. Bowers
To Mr. Singleton and Mr. Bowers:
Every single day, you bring a rare combination of unwavering vigilance and genuine warmth to our school. Your presence does far more than keep our campus secure—it creates an environment where students feel safe to learn, teachers feel supported to lead, and parents can send their children off with complete peace of mind.
What Makes Your Impact So Meaningful:
Steadfast Protection: You handle the responsibility of safety with remarkable composure, professionalism, and sharp judgment, ensuring our school remains a secure sanctuary every day.
Daily Connection: Long before security is ever tested, you build trust. Greeting students by name, sharing a warm morning smile, and offering a steadying presence in the hallways turns routine security into true mentorship.
Unsung Dedication: So much of your best work happens behind the scenes—the early arrivals, the constant alertness, and the proactive care that resolves issues before they ever start.
Thank you, Mr. Singleton and Mr. Bowers, for showing up every morning with vigilance, heart, and commitment. Our school community is stronger, safer, and brighter because of the dedication you bring to work every single day. Keep standing tall—your work matters more than you know!

I want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to Dakota Elder and Nicholas Wright for making me my beautiful corner shelf. "Fantastic job on this build, guys! Corner pieces are notoriously tricky because 90-degree angles require precise cuts and careful alignment to get those shelves sitting flush. The rich finish looks great, and the solid framing shows real attention to detail and patience. Building practical things with your hands is a craftsmanship skill that stays with you forever keep taking pride in your work and tackling tough projects together!" .

Congratulations to Emily Deal for earning 1st chair French Horn at Central Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra. Emily will go in November to represent our school at the event. For earning this, she is also eligible to audition for All-Virginia too.
Also, congratulations to Gage Francis who earned 1st alternate clarinet (3rd overall).
Huge honor for both!

📜 HISTORY COMES ALIVE IN ROOM 1202! 🇺🇸
Move over, 1775—our U.S. History classes just gave Patrick Henry a modern makeover! 🎤
Students in Mrs. Cranford and Mrs. Bobola’s classes stepped into the shoes of American revolutionaries to re-enact Patrick Henry’s famous "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death!" speech with a contemporary twist. (This was a cold read and they did great!) By connecting 18th-century passions to modern-day persuasive speaking, students analyzed the political tensions that sparked the American Revolution—and had a blast doing it!
Check out these future leaders making history entertaining and meaningful! 👏✨

📚❤️ Learning Beyond the Classroom! 🍎
Our Teachers for Tomorrow I & II students are getting hands-on experience in the elementary school setting! Today, our future educators spent time working with young learners, providing support, building relationships, and experiencing what it’s really like to be part of a classroom community.

Our Intro to Health & Medical Sciences students are learning all about infection control. They practiced the proper technique for removing contaminated gloves without spreading the “pathogens” (aka shaving cream 😆) onto their hands, clothing, or surroundings.
“Learning by doing” is a great way to retain and truly understand new information… even if it is a bit messy!
