Students in Mrs. Mull's Intro to Health & Medical Sciences class had fun playing a medical version of Simon Says by marking their partner with painter's tape! Working with partners, students practiced identifying anatomical planes, abdominal quadrants, and directional terms such as superior, inferior, medial, lateral, proximal, and distal on the human body.

Activities like this help students learn medical terminology and anatomical positioning in a hands-on way while also building communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills. Learning anatomy is always more fun when you can get up, move around, and practice like real healthcare professionals!

Who says you can’t see the stars during the day? 🌟

Taking "immersion" to a whole new level! 🪐 Mrs. Randall’s astronomy class traded the traditional classroom for the StarLab dome today. It wasn't just about looking at pretty lights—students got a hands-on look at the mechanics of our universe, including:

🌍 Earth’s tilt and how it dictates our seasons.

🌞 The sun’s position and angles throughout the year.

🌓 Understanding the equinoxes.

📈 Mapping the analemma (that figure-8 path the sun traces in the sky!).

There is nothing quite like learning real-world skills inside this amazing immersive dome. Our students are officially ready to navigate the cosmos! 🚀✨

Mr Gryder and Mrs Whitten hosted Mrs Maryanne Morgan of Sustainable Wood Innovations in their classes on Wednesday. She spoke to the Middle School students and to the Natural Resources students about the importance of Forestry in our area as well as throughout the Commonwealth. She focused much of her discussion on just how many career opportunities are available in the Forest Industry. She made sure to emphasize that forestry is not just logging but jobs in marketing, IT, finance, biology and many other fields of study are waiting to be filled.
We want to thank her and everyone with SWI for supporting our students.

Last Week .......🔬🩺 In Mrs. Mull's Intro to Health & Medical Sciences class, students participated in a hands-on teamwork simulation attempting to successfully complete a blindfolded “biopsy” on a marshmallow!

With one student acting as the surgeon (blindfolded!) and their partner acting as the surgical nurse, the nurse had to clearly and confidently orchestrate the procedure using only verbal instruction.

This activity powerfully demonstrated that successful patient care depends on collaborative teamwork, trust, and effective communication.
