This week in Cross Country!
As we head into our true Championship season for cross country over the next two weeks, I wanted to give everyone an update on the fantastic week of racing our team experienced last week!
On Thursday, October 16, both our middle school and high school teams traveled to Angler's Park in Danville, Virginia for the Greater Danville Metro XC Championships hosted by Galileo Magnet School. As coaches we are happy to report that all of our teams finished within the top 50% of the schools in attendance! In addition 23 out of 32, Phoenix runners earned PRs at the event!
Our high school varsity boys team placed 6th scoring 162 points with an average time of 20:22. Scoring for the boys were Russell Sager, Holden Wells, Abram Flanigan, Christian Lecher, and Evan Hoffer.
Our high school varsity girls team WON the meet scoring 28 points with an average time of 22:29. We had 6 of our runners earn medals for finishing in the top 15. Scoring for the girls were Abby Mox, Lillian Beatty, Brooklynn Jackson, Helen Peters, and Olivia Griffin. McKenna Mull placed 15th.
On the middle school side, the boys earned 3rd place and the girls earned 2nd place! It was a tight race on both sides with the boys missing out on 2nd place by one point, and the girls missing out on 1st place by 6 points. Scoring for the middle school boys were Clinton Adams, Benjamin Moss, Eric Peregoy, Scott Lewis, and Cody Peregoy. Scoring for the middle school girls were Ava Dalton, who won the race in a time of 12:40, Lena Manning, Bristol Jenkins, Aubrey Chumney, and Lillian Peregoy.
From a coaching perspective, it has been a joy to watch our top runners dedicated themselves and some of their races to helping others improve and reach PR times. They have realized and taken ownership in the mantra that by putting others first the whole team improves! We are hoping that this proves true and helps us race to even faster times at the Piedmont District Championships and the Region 4D Championships in the coming weeks! We are also hopeful that our team is peaking at just the right time!
Over the weekend we also had four high school runners compete at The Virginia XC Showcase at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This event is one of the most prestigious in the country for XC runners, and we are so proud of the results! Our team competed in the Large School Division which raced at 2 pm and 2:30 pm on Saturday, October 18. Natalie Adams finished 12th out of 123 runners with a time of 20:54. Lillian Beatty finished 21st with a time of 21:24. On the boys side, Christian Lecher finished 6th out of 193 with a time of 16:46, and Holden Wells finished 32nd with a time of 17:39.
And finally THANK YOU! We COULD NOT do what we do and help drive our team to success without your support!
